Kinbrace READY Receives Award

Kinbrace is honoured to be one of four recipients this year to receive the Inspiring Advocacy Award from the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL) at their national conference http://cialismax.com/generic-cialis-online-recommendations/ on 03 October 2013.

Fran Gallo (READY Coordinator) and Alexandra Charlton (READY Advisory Member) were on hand with Loren Balisky (Kinbrace Director) to receive the honour of the CARL Award.

The Award was in recognition of our READY program, a highly collaborative educational initiative that prepares refugee claimants for their refugee hearings.  READY started in 2008 in Vancouver in partnership with the UNHCR and the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada – Refugee Protection Division (IRB).  It is identified as a unique model of orientation with strong outcomes.  READY Tours bring refugee claimants into a refugee hearing room, explain what will happen and who will participate in the hearing, and explore the basic concepts of refugee law.  You can read more about READY and its impact here.

We are very pleased that the READY Tour model is now being replicated nationally in Montreal and Toronto, where the largest populations of people in Canada’s refugee protection system live.

Kinbrace shares this award with all the refugee claimants who have been on a READY Tour (or will be on one!), all the faithful volunteer interpreters, our partner agencies who refer participants, and the IRB who provide space and staff to make the READY Tours possible several times a month.
