RHP Guide Launched on World Refugee Day
December 20, 2014
On World Refugee Day 20 June 2014 refugee claimants in Metro Vancouver and Toronto have a new resource available to help prepare for their refugee hearings.
Refugee Hearing Preparation: A Guide for Refugee Claimants (RHP Guide) provides:
- an overview of key legal issues
- timelines to track refugee claims
- strategies to prepare for the refugee hearing
- a hearing preparation checklist
- answers to FAQs
- lists of legal and community resources
- etc
Colourfully illustrated, translated into 3 languages (Spanish, Chinese, Arabic), and launched on 30 April 2014 in Metro Vancouver and 20 June 2014 in Greater Toronto Area (English only), the new RHP Guide is designed to help refugee claimants further their understanding of the refugee determination system and increase their capacity to engage it meaningfully. Kinbrace developed the RHP Guide through the READY Tours program in Metro Vancouver working with dedicated supporters including the Law Foundation of BC, UNHCR, CCR and many other partners. All 4 languages are available online in PDF format for reading and printing.
In the short time the RHP Guide’s been available, refugee claimants, lawyers, service providers, and others have spoken to the value of this new resource.
“Some refugee claims fail for lack of preparation or key evidence. Using the RHP Guide will save lives.” Peter Showler, Director, The Refugee Forum, University of Ottawa; former Chairperson, Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada
