Celebration
Is the experience of joy sincere (or even possible?) in the midst of global forced displacement?
At this free, interactive Celebration workshop hosted on 17 June 2023 at Creekside Community & Recreation Centre, 50 in-person and 15 virtual participants gathered to hear from panels with refugee and Indigenous perspective and participate in roundtable conversations.
The workshop goal was to understand the experience of hope where joy and sorrow meet.
Workshop participants
- experienced the welcome of Melaney Gleeson-Lyall
- engaged with hiphop artist Shad K about celebration
- engaged with the panelist stories Lara Albahadeli, Samih Saltah, Amrit Cojocaru, and K. Thariki.
Yolanda Liman (Drawing It Out) created this beautiful graphic recording through her listening at the workshop.

In-person participants enjoyed Mexican cuisine, thanks to Mis Cazuelas, prepared by founder and owner Angeles.
